The Hammer Museum

I love love love museums as you will soon learn. You can get lost in another time and place. The work you see makes you think. And most are indoors which is a major bonus during the summer months.

UCLA’s Hammer Museum checks all these boxes and then some.

Highlights from my visit:

Oliver Payne and Keiichi Tanaami– Works populated by Japanese idols, monsters, and ancient deities set amid icons from popular Japanese “bullet hell” arcade games.
Marisa Merz– A retrospective of the Italian painter, sculptor, and installation artist.

And a good gift shop is a major plus for me. Totally digging the Japanese apron wear designs that are part of the Iko Iko Pop Up Shop. And double points that designer Rowena Sartin is a mama.

Hammer Museum is also very breastfeeding friendly with nice benches outside the galleries.
