We ventured out to MOCA LA yesterday and it didn’t disappoint. In all honestly, I wasn’t familiar with Kerry James Marshall’s work before our visit but have become a fan. The exhibit is chronological, tracing the span of his career- “This exhibition, Marshall’s first major retrospective in the United States, contains nearly 80 paintings, all of which contain images of Black subjects going about their daily business, presented with utter equality and humanity.” (more here)
MOCA’s permanent exhibit has great nuggets as well, including Rothko, Lichtenstein and Pollock.
The beautiful building was a bit tricky to navigate with a stroller (read- lots of stairs and steps) but the staff was helpful getting me to various elevators. Keep that in mind or embrace baby-wearing when you visit.
