LA’s best kept museum secret

I’ll cut to the chase, you MUST check out the Marciano Art Foundation museum on Wilshire. If that name is familiar, it’s because you came of age in the ’80s and ’90s- they founded Guess Jeans. The building is an old Scottish Rite Masonic Temple, and the current exhibit “The Wig Museum” by Jim Shaw leverages that heritage. Shaw has taken some of the Mason’s old theatrical production pieces (think backdrops, elaborate wigs) and reinterpreted them. It is one of the best, most interesting shows I have seen in a while, and caused me to Internet wormhole into the world of the Masons (who have a fascinating history).

The Marciano Foundation also has a great collection of modern art, including Takashi Murakami. See below for a few of my faves.
